New Delhi/UNI:  In the wake of large-scale violence that took place in national capital's north east district, the Congress on Friday deputed a five-member delegation to visit the area to take stock of the situation.

"The Congress president has deputed a delegation of party leaders to visit the riot-affected areas in the national capital. Congress president has asked the leaders to assess the situation emanating from the mindless violence in riot-affected areas and its after-effects and submit report to the Congress president immediately," AICC organisational general secretary KC Venugopal said in a statement.

The delegation will comprise AICC general secretary Mukul Wasnik, AICC in-charge of Delhi Shakti Sinh Gohil, Haryana PCC president Kumari Selja, former MP Tariq Anwar and Mahila Congress president Sushmita Dev.

According to party sources, the delegation will visit the violence-hit areas soon and will meet the affected people.

A Congress delegation, led by Ms Gandhi and former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh had also met the President Ram Nath Kovind over the Delhi violence on Thursday and demanded sacking of Home Minister Amit Shah for 'abdication of duty'.
