Coast Guards continue search, rescue operation to locate missing fishing boat
Apart from diverting its ships patrolling at sea, additional surface and air assets were pressed into service to augment the search.
The operation is on since Aug 9 and will continue till reports are received that all our fishers are safe.
Coast Guard has ensured safe return of 18 boats with about 254 fishermen to harbor in last two days.
Forty-four fishermen in three boats were reported drifting have been located and escorted back to harbor.
The Coast Guard ships and aircrafts have to negotiate rough sea and weather conditions in search for the missing boats.
The Coast Guard Dornier have been pushing the safety limits by flying low in extreme weather condition to locate the boats and the ship’s facing high swell to render assistance to stranded boats, read an official statement.
The fishing boat Dayamoyee along with 16 fishermen has been located and found adrift 62 nautical miles from Sagar Island due to engine failure. ICGS Anmol has been directed to provide necessary assistance and tow the stranded boat to Sagar
The Regional Headquarters in Kolkata is in constant liaison with the Maritime Rescue Co-ordination Center (MRCC) of Bangladesh and the Regional Commander, Inspector General KR Nautiyal, PTM, TM is personally monitoring the progress of the Search and Rescue operation.
In case any fishing boats drifts towards Bangladeshi waters on crossing International Maritime Boundary Line, necessary assistance will be provided by Bangladesh Rescue Agencies and Coast Guard ships would take over and escort them to safety. CG ships and aircrafts are regularly sanitizing the area and diverting the fishing boats to safety.
Simultaneously a ocean data buoy belonging to National Institute of Ocean Technology was found beached at Frazerganj by the vigilant Coast Guard personnel of Frazerganj on Aug 5.
The high value data buoy was handed over to the representatives of NIOT (National Institute of Ocean Technology) on 09 Aug 16 and is being transported safely to Chennai.
