Kolkata, Aug 8 (IBNS): The Coast Guard rescued an injured cadet from a merchant ship from mid sea on Monday.

Cadet Dilawar Ahlawat has suffered from deep cut caused by shifting of cross over platform and steel plates onboard merchant vessel MP Panama-5.

The merchant ship was unable to shift the patient via port tugs as they were then engaged in transloading operations at sand-heads anchorage.

The coast guard maritime rescue coordinating centre at Haldia received an SOS from the master of the bulk carrier, MP Panama-5.

Coast Guard district headquarters Haldia deployed its high speed interceptor boat C 418 commanded by Deputy Commandant P Modak in the first light of the day to evacuate the injured cadet.

Successful mid sea transfer of the injured cadet was carried out and subsequently he has been transferred to Kolkata for further medical treatment.

The entire operation was conducted by the operations department of Coast Guard Regional Headquarters (North East).
