Kolkata/IBNS: The West Bengal Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Tuesday visited a Trinamool Congress (TMC) office in Kolkata's Kalighat area as part of its ongoing investigation into an alleged signature forgery controversy.

The party office is located adjacent to the residence of former West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee.

A team from the state investigative agency arrived at the premises along with personnel from Kalighat Police Station to carry out inquiries linked to the case.

The visit marks a significant development in the probe into the alleged forgery matter, with investigators seeking to collect evidence and verify information connected to the case.

Local police and central forces personnel have also reached the location.

CID officers entered the party office and conducted investigative procedures for nearly two hours as part of the ongoing inquiry.

The operation drew attention due to the office's proximity to Mamata Banerjee's residence.

Brief tension during investigation

According to reports, tension briefly surfaced at the premises when CID officers reportedly became involved in a verbal exchange with TMC leader and former Rajya Sabha member Subhasish Chakraborty, who was present there at the time and introduced himself as a voluntary caretaker of the party office.

The disagreement was reportedly related to the entry of the investigating team into the building.

However, the situation remained under control, and the inquiry continued.

Kalyan Banerjee reaches scene

TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee later reached Mamata's Kalighat residence during the CID investigation.

"No signature forgery took place and Mamata Banerjee was never nammed in the complaint, still CID has entered her residence when she is in Delhi," Kalyan Banerjee told reporters.

"The CID raid was a part of Suvendu Adhikari's vandetta politics and it was carried out just to harass Mamata Banerjee and to maligh her political image," Banerjee added.

The Trinamool Congress has also not released any formal response concerning the search operation.
