New Delhi, Feb 22 (IBNS): Canadian Foreign Minister Chrystia Freeland and and her Indian counterpart Sushma Swaraj held a strategic discussion on Thursday on  multiple key issues.

Spokesperson of Ministry of External Affairs, India, Raveesh Kumar tweeted to say, "EAM @SushmaSwaraj and Canadian Foreign Minister @cafreeland had wide ranging discussions on strengthening relations in trade and investment, security and cyber security, energy, people to people contacts and other relevant bilateral and regional issues."

Attired in red,  Freeland, was welcomed by Swaraj before the meet.

Swaraj is the first Indian minister to engage into a discussion with any Canadian minister amid the cold welcome received by PM Trudeau in India.

Questions were raised whether the Indian government was snubbing Trudeau as Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is yet to meet his Canadian counterpart.

However the Indian government denied any such claims of snubbing.

Trudeau, who is on a week-long visit to India, will stay till February 23.

Trudeau on Wednesday met Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh where the two leaders had discussed over the controversial Khalistan issue.

Trudeau has assured Singh of Canada's distance from the all those who want Indian state of Punjab as a separate country named Khalistan.

Apart from diplomatic talks, Trudeau had visited Taj Mahal, Sabarmati Ashram, Golden Temple during his stay in India.

Trudeau is expected to meet Modi on Friday.
