Chidambaram demands apology from Sushma Swaraj

"Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitley did not answer crucial questions..If Sushma Swaraj wanted to intervene on humanitarian grounds then why did she not press Lalit Modi to apply for Indian documents..I find it difficult to believe that Ms Swaraj did not know about the judgement, we want an unqualified apology from her," Chidambaram said while addressing a press conference here.

A turbulent, rancorous and infructuous  Monsoon session of Parliament ended on Thursday without legislation including the Goods and Services Tax (GST) proposal being passed.

MPs of the ruling BJP and its allies will take out what they call a "Save Democracy" march against opposition protests that have led to a total washout of the session.

The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) will also meet to discuss the way forward on the GST Bill and other pending legislation.

Speaking on the issue of GST Bill, Chidamabaram said: "BJP obstructed the GST, but never spelt out their objections, Congress has given our objections in writing."

Attacking the Congress over the disruptions in the Monsoon Session of the Parliament, Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Thursday said the party has the 'clear policy' of hampering any government that 'isn't their own'.

"The Congress seems to have the clear policy of hampering any the government that isn't their own," Jaitley said while addressing a press conference.

Attacking Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi, Jaitley said: "What can I say about Rahul Gandhi? There is no distinction between parliamentary speech and slogans."

Referring to the disruptions, Jailtey said no major legislation was possible during the Monsoon session.

The Monsoon Session began on July 21 witnessed bedlam on each day leading to repeated adjournment of both the houses as the Congress made it apoint not to allow Parliament to function until the resignation  of External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj for her alleged help to the tainted cricket tycoon Lalit Modi.

The Congress has also been demanding the resignation of Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje on the same ground and that of her Madhya Pradesh counterpart Shivraj Singh Chouhan for the multi-crore Vyapam scam.

The situation prevented Parliament from transacting any business through the entire session forcing key reforms bills to be shelved for the time being.
