Chennai, July 17 (IBNS): Advocates thrashed 17 men who were arrested in Chennai for sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl, media reports said.

The victim was reportedly assaulted in a Chennai apartment for several weeks.

The accused were thrashed when they were brought to court on Tuesday.

Lawyers have refused to represent the rape-accused in court, reported NDTV.

The girl reportedly has a hearing problem.

The girl, who is hearing-impaired and lives with her parents in the largely unoccupied 300-apartment complex, was allegedly sedated and given spiked soft drinks by the attackers, reported NDTV.

The police said the girl was also blackmailed with videos of the assault.

The family lodged a police complaint after she informed the issue to her sister.
