Cheetahs arrived, but when is employment coming? Rahul Gandhi's jibe at PM Modi

New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Saturday took a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi saying that the eight Cheetahs have arrived in India but there is no sign of jobs, the government had promised of providing in eight years.

On a day when the hashtag #NationalUnemploymentDay trended on Twitter in India, the Congress leader said, "eight cheetahs have come, but tell us, why haven't 16 crore jobs arrived in the last eight years?"

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, ahead of the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, had promised the creation of two crore jobs every year. Congress has repeatedly attacked the government over the issue.

Rahul Gandhi said the youth of the country is raising voices against the low employment situation, and they won't stop till they get employment.

Earlier, Congress spokesperson Supriya Srinate said in view of the "worrying" job situation in the country that the youth are marking Prime Minister Narendra Modi's birthday as "National Unemployment Day".

"Nehru Ji's birthday is marked as Children's Day, Indira Ji's birthday is celebrated as Communal Harmony Day and Rajiv Gandhi Ji's birthday is celebrated as 'Sadbhavna Diwas'... Atal Ji's birthday in December is celebrated as Good Governance Day, which is why it worries and pains me that Mr. Modi's birthday is being celebrated by the youth of this country as National Unemployment Day," Shrinate said.

Congress leader Jairam Ramesh tweeted, "42 percent of youth between age 20-24 years are unemployed. Even before the pandemic, India saw the highest unemployment in 45 years."

"For some years, youth have been observing September 17th as ‘National Unemployment Day’. Bharat Jodo Yatra walks in solidarity against the anti-youth Modi Sarkar," he said.
