Centre and Delhi government lock horns about proposed Metro fare hike
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), which had hiked fares in May, is likely to increase the fare by up to Rs 10 for those who travel over two kilometers, according to reports.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government is against the fare hike.
On Thursday, Delhi transport minister Kailash Gahlot had said that his government could revoke Delhi metro chief Mangu Singh’s appointment if fares were increased on October 10, media reported.
Singh is AAP's nominee on the DMRC Board.
According to media reports, the Center has said that it will consider the setting up of a fresh Fare Fixation Committee if the Delhi government agrees to give over Rs.3,000 crpre every year to the DMRC.
