CBI infighting: SC to hear CVC which inquired into Alok Verma's bribery case
New Delhi, Nov 12 (IBNS): The Supreme Court on Monday will hear the version of the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) which probed into the bribery case of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI)'s on-leave chief Alok Verma, media reports said.
According to some media reports, after preliminary probe, nothing substantial has been found in the case against Verma, who has been accused of taking a bribe from Hyderabad-based businessman Satish Sana.
Verma had allegedly taken the bribe through CBI's special director and number two of the federal probe agency, Rakesh Asthana, who has been named by Sana.
However, Asthana rubbished the charges saying it was hurled against him owing to a conspiracy between the accuser and some CBI and Enforcement Directorate officers.
Amid the fight between Verma and Asthana, the Centre had sent both on leave, appointing Indian Police Service (IPS) officer M Nageswara Rao as the CBI's interim chief.
After Verma moved the top court against his removal by the Centre, the highest level of the judiciary had asked the CVC to complete the probe and submit its report in two weeks. The top court also barred Rao from taking any call on policies as the CBI chief.
