Canada: Cops 'assault' Hindu protesters who were demonstrating against temple attack

A video has gone viral on the social media where Canadian cops were seen clashing with the Hindu devotees who were protesting against the attack on a temple in Toronto by suspected Khalistani elements.

In the video, the policemen were seen assaulting the protesters. Many of them were waving the Indian flag.

Journalist Daniel Bordman, who shared the video on X, said: "BREAKING: The RCMP start attacking Hindu worshippers on their own temple grounds in Surrey BC."

"Watch as an RCMP officer goes into the crowd to go after Hindu devotees after pushing them back to protect the Khalistanis who came to harass the temple goers on Diwali. Punching Hindus in the head and beating them with batons caught on video," he said.

He later posted a correction statement on X which said: "Correction: this is Peel Regional Police in Brampton."

The Indian High Commission has strongly responded to an attack on Hindus outside a temple in Canada's Brampton by suspected Khalistani members, calling the violence" deeply disappointing", media reports said.

In a press statement, the High Commission said, "We have seen violent disruption today (Nov 3) orchestrated by anti-India elements outside the consular camp co-organized with the Hindu Sabha Mandir, Brampton, near Toronto."

"It is deeply disappointing to see such disruptions being allowed for routine consular work being organized by our Consulates with the fullest cooperation of local co-organizers."

"We also remain very concerned for the safety of applicants, including Indian nationals, on whose demand such events are organized in the first place. Despite these efforts by anti-India elements, our Consulate was able to issue more than 1,000 life certificates to the Indian and Canadian applicants," the statement added.

Unacceptable, says Canada PM

Canadian Prime Minister has called the attack on a Hindu temple by suspected Khalistani members in his country "unacceptable" and asserted everyone has the right to practice their religion "freely and safely".

Trudeau posted on X, "The acts of violence at the Hindu Sabha Mandir in Brampton today are unacceptable. Every Canadian has the right to practice their faith freely and safely.

"Thank you to the Peel Regional Police for swiftly responding to protect the community and investigate this incident."
