Calcutta High Court grants conditional permission to organize MP Fair in Asansol

Kolkata, Jan 12 (IBNS): A division bench of the Calcutta High Court, led by Justice Biswanath Somadder, on Thursday granted conditional permission to host MP Fair (Saansad Mela) in Asansol city of West Bengal's Burdwan district.

MP of Asansol Lok Sabha constituency, Babul Supriyo, has organized the MP Fair at a ground of Indian Railways in Asansol, which was scheduled to be commenced through a music concert on Wednesday evening.

Few days earlier, TMC-ruled Asansol Municipality denied permission to hold the fair, citing security and overcrowding concerns.

Later singer-turned-Union Minister Babul Supriyo moved to the Calcutta High Court and rejecting Asansol Municipality's decision, the court on Thursday gave permission to host the fair without any entertainment programme.

The court also directed Asansol Municipality and local polics to provide necessary security arrangement during the fair.

Posting a status on Twitter, BJP MP Babul Supriyo on Thursday morning declared to cancel the concert, where Bollywood singers Shaan, Alka Yagnik, Abhijeet Bhattacharya and Mika Singh were scheduled to perform.

Babul Supriyo, however, welcomed the decision of the court.
