New Delhi/UNI/IBNS: The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Wednesday gave its ex-post facto approval for allocation of food grains from Central Pool to approximately 8 crore migrants at 5 kg per person per month free of cost till June.

It would entail an estimated food subsidy of about Rs 2,982.27 crore, an official release said here.

The expenditure towards intra-state transportation and handling charges and dealer’s margin will account for about 127.25 crore which will borne fully by central government.

Accordingly, the total subsidy from the government is estimated at about of Rs 3,109.52 crore.

The allocation will ease the hardships faced by migrants due to economic disruption caused by Covid-19.

Modi last week announced an economic package, which is a stimulus to the economy after the impact of Coronavirus, worth Rs. 20 lakh crore.

The package, which was detailed by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in five consecutive days from last Wednesday, also gave a big push to privatisation in all sectors of the country of 1.3 billion people.
