BSF tropper killed in Pakistan firing along LoC

Srinagar, July 6 (IBNS) Pakistani troops violated the ceasefire along the frontiers in Jammu and Kashmir, targeting Indian positions along the LoC and international border overnight and killing a Border Security Force (BSF) trooper.

“The exchange of gunfire between the Pakistan Rangers and the army’s 5 Kumaon regiment started around 7:20 am today and continued for twenty minutes in Macchil sector of the district”, a BSF official told IBNS on phone.  

“No reports of injury to any soldier on this side have been reported," he said.

Earlier, a Border Security Force (BSF) trooper was killed as India and Pakistan armiesSunday exchanged gunfire in Nowgam sector of Handwara in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

Constable Abhijit Nandi of BSF 119 battalion. was killed during an exchange of fire between the two sides at 3:30 pm in Nowgam Sector of Handwara along the Line of Control (LoC) on Sunday.


 The Sonapindi post was targeted on Sunday night for around 20 minutes. The Indian Army's Kumaon Regiment, posted in the area, fired back at a range housing Pakistani pickets.


There were three ceasefire violations by Pakistani troops within 12 hours along the international border in Jammu.
