New Delhi, Jan 25 (IBNS): In his address to the nation on the eve of 69th Republic Day, President Ram Nath Kovind on Thursday said brotherhood is the basis of our democracy.

Kovind began his speech congratulating all individuals of the country including border forces, farmers, doctors who make significant contribution in their own capacities.

He said: "Republic day was the day when we had constructed our constitution. The construction of the constitution was the second step in the process of our constitution."

Kovind pressed for equal opportunities of education for both girls and boys. He said: "Families where girls and boys do get equal opportunities of education will only construct the nation."

The President has pinned immense importance on the youth of the nation.

Considering that majority of Indian population is below 35, Kovind laid great emphasis on the contribution by the young generation.

"Youth can only make the country progressive. We have full hope on youth which forms the 60% of the nation."

Highlighting the digital drive initiative taken up by the central government, Kovind said: "Our aim is to make a digital economy."

Kovind also laid importance on innovation saying, "Innovative child makes innovative country".

Referring the Give It Up campaign launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Kovind referred to the sacrifices people of the country make.

Kovind even urged all citizens to think about the neighbours and feel for others. "We should always question whether our needs are greater than others'?"

India will celebrate its 69th Republic Day on Thursday.
