Break in CJP? Rebel Manish Brahmbhatt launches CJP-Democratic, accuses Dipke of running ‘Team Kejriwal’

The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), led by Abhijeet Dipke, appears to be facing its first internal rebellion, with former volunteer Manish Brahmbhatt launching a breakaway platform called the Cockroach Janata Party-Democratic (CJP-D).

Brahmbhatt has accused Dipke of sidelining protesters and transforming what began as a youth-led movement into a hand-picked “Team Kejriwal”.

He alleged that the CJP's leadership was dominated by people previously associated with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and claimed that the group was primarily focused on opposing the BJP.

The CJP and Dipke had not responded to Brahmbhatt's allegations at the time of publication.

‘Active protesters were excluded’

The latest development follows a confrontation in August, when Brahmbhatt travelled from Gujarat to Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar after learning that the CJP's core team was holding a meeting at Dipke's residence.

Brahmbhatt and his associate Rahul Pandya staged a protest outside Dipke's home, alleging that volunteers who had actively participated in protests at Jantar Mantar were excluded from the meeting and decision-making process.

Both Brahmbhatt and Pandya were later hospitalised after their health deteriorated during the protest. At the time, Brahmbhatt was identified in news reports as a CJP worker.

From satirical joke to youth platform

Dipke founded the CJP on May 16 as a satirical online movement following remarks attributed to Chief Justice of India Surya Kant referring to certain people as “cockroaches” and “parasites”, which triggered outrage.

What began as an online joke soon evolved into a youth-oriented platform, attracting attention for raising issues including unemployment, examination paper leaks and alleged irregularities in the education system.

The platform subsequently sought to position itself as a broader youth movement, making its latest internal dispute a significant test for its organisational structure and leadership.

CJP-D marks first major internal challenge

With Brahmbhatt now announcing the CJP-D, the split could mark the first major challenge to Dipke's leadership since the formation of the CJP.

Brahmbhatt's allegations centre on claims that the movement's original protesters and volunteers have been pushed aside while individuals with previous political affiliations have gained greater influence.

The allegations, however, remain contested, with the CJP yet to issue a response to the claims.
