BJP youth leader announces Rs 11 lakh for Bengal CM's head, courts controversy

Kolkata, Apr 12 (IBNS): A BJP youth leader in Bengal has courted controversy following an announcement where he placed a bounty of Rs 11 lakh on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's head, reports said.

Yogesh Varshney, member of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha, the youth wing of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) made the threat in the wake of Hanuman Jayanti clashes in Birbhum, some 180 km from state capital Kolkata.

Earlier it was reported that police had stopped a procession celebrating Hanuman Jayanti and even resorted to lathi charge when the crowd didn't disperse.

Varshney also equated Banerjee with a demon.

Meanwhile, the BJP has come under severe criticism from the opposition, following their Ram Navami celebrations in West Bengal, where its open display of swords were deemed repulsive to Bengali culture.

The Bengal Chief Minister was quoted as saying by NDTV, "Some BJP leaders who do not know the culture of Bengal are flashing swords on the streets to intimidate people."
