BJP to seek delay in Padmavati release

| @indiablooms | Nov 02, 2017, at 10:37 pm

New Delhi, Nov 2 (IBNS) : The BJP will  write to the Election Commission, Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) and the Central government to delay  the release of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's period film Padmavati for allegedly hurting the sentiments of the Rajputs, media reports said.

Some organisations have alleged that the film has distorted history by linking queen Padmavati with Turki Turki ruler Alauddin Khilji.

"We are writing to the ECI, CBFC and the Centre, seeking to stop the film's release for a temporary period till the issue is resolved," BJP spokesperson IK Jadeja has said.

He denied that BJP protest has anything to do with the upcoming election, and said the party was concerned that an attempt was made to distort the history and heritage of a state. "An attempt has been made to wrongly link the two characters of history," Jadeja has been quoted as saying.

While the film based on a fictional account of Rani Padmavati of Chittor and Delhi Sultan Alauddin Khilji is set for a December 1 release, Gujarat is going to polls on December 9 and 14.
