BJP targets Sonia Gandhi over VVIP chopper scam
New Delhi, Apr 26 (IBNS): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday attacked Congress chief Sonia Gandhi over the VVIP chopper scam issue.
BJP national secretary Shrikant Sharma told media that Gandhi should give a clarification over the alleged mention of her name in the Italian court's order in connection with the AugustaWestland chopper deal during the UPA regime.
According to media reports, the Italian court in its judgement stated how the firm lobbied with Sonia Gandhi and her close aides like the then NSA M K Narayanan and the then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
Gandhi was described as the "driving force" by the judge behind the deal.
Addressing a press conference, Union minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said the then Defence Minister AK Antony had in March 2013 said corruption had taken place in the purchase of VVIP choppers and that bribe had been taken.
The BJP minister has now asked Antony to clarify the same/
"Bribe-givers have been convicted. Why are bribe-takers silent? Antony should answer if leaders of Congress are involved in it or not. Are they from your party or not? Please come out clean," he said.
