BJP takes early lead as Bengaluru civil polls results start pouring in

Bengaluru, Aug 25 (IBNS) The Bharatiya Janata Party takes early lead as counting of votes cast in the BBMP elections for 197 city corporation wards in Bengaluru has started.

The BJP had a majority in the last corporation, but the ruling Congress hopes to change that.

According to reports, the  BJP is currently leading in 59 of the 197 wards.  The Congress is ahead in 39 seats, while the Janata Dal (Secular) is leading in 10.

For the first time, 50 per cent seats were reserved for first women candidates in the high-stake Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike or BBMP elections.

The election witnessed less than  50 per cent voter turnout on Saturday.
