Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat has ordered a probe into the attack on BJP Rajya Sabha member Tarun Vijay and a Dalit leader who were stoned by a mob after they came out of a temple in Chakrata, about 180 km here.

"We will take all stringent action", Rawat said on Friday

Uttarakhand Governor Krishan Kant Paul said he spoke to the CM for action.

A mob of at least 2,000 people started throwing stones as  Vijay and Daulat Kunwar, a BSP leader from Chakrata  stepped out of the Silgur Devta temple at Punah-Pokhri village on Friday.

The mob also damaged  Vijay’s car and pushed it into a gorge. A few policemen were injured when they tried to intervene and  two police vehicles were damaged.

Vijay was taken to a hospital. His condition is stated to be stable.

Vijay was on a campaign to allow Dalits in the temples in the Jaunsar-Bawar region.
