BJP is desperate: Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on FIR against Rahul Gandhi over parliament scuffle

New Delhi/IBNS: Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has ramped up her attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) after a First Information Report (FIR) was filed against her brother, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi in connection with the injury of two ruling camp MPs over a scuffle in parliament on Thursday.

"Today the whole country is seeing that BJP people have filed many cases against Rahul Gandhi. They bring new FIRs and tell lies. This shows their level of desperation," Priyanka told reporters on Friday.

The Congress is refusing to budge from its demand for the resignation of union home minister Amit Shah, whose remark on Father of the Constitution BR Ambedkar has been weaponised by the Opposition in cornering the government.

Congress general secretary KC Venugopal said, "Our agitation is very clear. Amit Shah should resign; he should tender an apology to the nation. When we are asking this, if you want to put our leaders and us in jail, you are most welcome.

"Yesterday Varsha Gaikwad also filed a complaint, but there is no FIR. The FIR is only for BJP's complaint?"

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has been booked for allegedly causing injuries to two BJP MPs during a tussle in the Parliament complex on Thursday.

The two MPs- Pratap Sarangi and Mukesh Rajput sustained head injuries during parallel protests from Treasury and Opposition benches outside the Parliament.

Both leaders, one of whom is 69 years old, are in the hospital.

Rahul has been booked under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Samhita including charges of voluntarily causing grievous hurt, the act of endangering the life or personal safety of others, the use of criminal force, criminal intimidation, and common intention.

The complaint was filed earlier in the day by former union minister and BJP MP Anurag Thakur, and MPs Bansuri Swaraj and Hemang Joshi, who, among other things, accused Rahul of an attempt to murder.

Addressing a press conference in the evening, the LoP said the BJP created chaos at the parliament complex to distract attention from Shah's 'fashion' remarks on Ambedkar.

The Opposition ramped up its protest earlier in the day in parliament premises with even lawmakers climbing 'Makar Dwar' in a bizarre scene of political slugfest.
