BJP holds key meet on Lakhimpur Kheri incident ahead of UP Assembly polls

New Delhi/IBNS: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) held a four-hour long meet in Delhi on Tuesday to discuss the Uttar Pradesh Assembly election next year in the backdrop of the Lakhimpur Kheri incident.

"The key question at the meeting was likely to be the possible fallout of last week's events in Lakhimpur Kheri, where four farmers were run over on October 3 -- allegedly by Ashish Mishra, the son of Union Minister Ajay Mishra," NDTV reported.

Amid nationwide outrage and protests, Ajay Mishra has not resigned.

The Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) and Karnataka Pradesh Youth Congress Committee jointly held a silent protest demanding immediate dismissal of MoS for Home Ajay Mishra Teni in connection with Lakhimpur Kheri violence in Uttar Pradesh.

The members of Youth Congress and Congress party observed a minute’s silence in remembrance of the deceased farmers who were mowed down by a car belonging to Mishra.

Placards with slogans demanding Mishra’s dismissal and cartoons depicting the ruling BJP’s apathy towards farmers were displayed.

A day-long bandh in Maharashtra was held on Monday, with the leaders of ruling parties terming the protest as being widely successful.

However, NDTV quoting sources said there is no possibility of resignation for now.

At a meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah last week, Mishra reportedly said he or his son were not at the spot.

"Sources indicated that a fresh overview could be taken on the basis of the findings of the investigation if needed," NDTV reported.

Mishra's son Ashish was arrested on Saturday night after 12 hours of interrogation.

Ashish has been accused of crushing 4 farmers under his car during the violence at Tikonia area of Lakhimpur Kheri on October 3.
