Bihar: Nine arrested for beating girls who resisted sexual harassment

Patna, Oct 8 (IBNS): Police have arrested nine people, who were accused of beating girls who had resisted sexual harassment by a group of boys at a residential school in Bihar, media reports said.

Most of the accused are teenagers.

Police had earlier arrested three people, who were among the accused. Six others were arrested on Monday.

The incident occurred on Saturday when a clash broke out between the girls, all aged between 12 and 16, and a group of local boys.

The girls had noticed a group of boys sneaking into the Kasturba Residential School, which is an institution for girls. The boys had misbehaved after they were asked by girls to leave. Following the misbehaviour, the girls had beaten the boys up as an act of self defence, an eye-witness told NDTV.

Later, the boys had brought a huge mob along with them and barged into the school, police said.

According to the police complaint, the principal of the school said despite repeated requests to remain calm, the mob thrashed the girls.
