Bengal polls: ECI removes Birbhum SP

Kolkata/New Delhi, Apr 14 (IBNS): Two days before, West Bengal's politically crucial Birbhum district goes for assembly polls, the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Thursday removed Mukesh Kumar from the post of Birbhum SP, reports said.

According to reports, Sabyasachi Raman Mishra, who was the Special Superintendent of state's Criminal Investigation Department (CID), has been appointed as the new SP of Birbhum.

Meanwhile, OCs of three police stations in Birbhum, Labhpur, Mayureshwar and Bolpur, have been replaced as well.

Earlier in the afternoon, Chef Election Commissioner Nasim Zaidi said to take necessary legal steps against TMC's Birbhum district president Anubrata Mondal, who allegedly threatened to vanish oppositions from the district.

The ECI also issued a show cause notice to TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee for violating Model Code of Conduct.
