Bengal Guv urges people to remain calm, asks govt to act fast in restoring services
Kolkata/IBNS/UNI: West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankar on Sunday urged the Mamata Banerjee government and its agencies to be in overdrive to restore essential services for the people post super Cyclone Amphan's wreckage even as the Indian Army swung into action to clear obstacles created by largescale falling of trees on roads affecting supply of drinking water and electricity.
Hours after the State Government sought the support of the Indian troops, some five-column of Army personnel swung into action on Saturday evening helping the CESC ( power) and municipality to clear the obstacles due to fallen trees, that snapped power and supply of drinking water.
"Our Army has in short time performed in exemplary manner and effected restoration work. A big relief to suffering people. Should have been called Mamata Official earliest and not after three days. Army was in full preparedness for relief work even before land fall Amphan," Dhankar tweeted on Sunday.

Dhankar said he was pained at the horrifying spectacle of people suffering for lack of basic facilities.

He also appealed to the government/ agencies to act fast and quick to restore services and urged the people to keep calm.
This comes as reports of demonstrations and protests have been pouring in from different districts regarding the scarcity of drinking water and power supplies since Wednesday after super cyclone left trails of destruction with 86 people killed so far.

The Indian Army on Saturday provided three columns to assist the Kolkata administration while two more columns were sent to North and South 24 Paraganas district to help the authorities in restoring normalcy in the wake of massive destruction inflicted by Cyclone Amphan.
The military personnel have been seen at different parts of the city clearing the fallen trees in south Kolkata, east Kolkata and elsewhere in the city.
Behala area in South Kolkata has been worst hit with falling trees where the jawans took up the task to clear the blockade.
