Bengal: Civil war like situation between villagers as they divided politically at Nanoor over vote

Nanoor, Apr 29 (UNI): A civil war like situation arose after the villagers of Nanoor split themselves between ruling Trinamool Congress and opposition BJP.

The saffron brigade allegedly ransacked a ruling party camp office near 217 booth after many BJP supporters were prevented from going to polling booth to cast ballot.

Eye witnesses said an irate mob, which included several women, were seen running about to nab their opponents, after they were prevented by the alleged TMC activists from going to booth to cast their votes.

The BJP supporters first dismantled a camp office of TMC and a make shift kitchen where cooking was in progress to feed the voters as well as the party cadres.

TV footage showed gas cylinder and oven belonging to TMC camp were thrown in to a water body by the BJP supporters. They also destroyed cooked food.

The ransacking around Nanoor village continued for half-an-hour until the security forces took control of the area and dispersed the attackers.

However, there had been no reports of any injury or arrest of any person as the security forces dispersed the rival supporters.

Meanwhile, Birbhum district TMC president Anubrata Mondal, who is now under surveillance of the election body, cast his vote at 286 polling booth.

He arrived on a bike as pillion and cast his vote.

A report from Hobispur in Nalhati under Birbhum LS seat, where many voters were prevented from going to polling booths, said a BJP agent was badly beaten and his skull was fractured in the attack by the alleged TMC goons.

The villagers are now grouping together to cast their votes and are waiting for the security forces to escort them.
