Kolkata/IBNS: The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has lodged a complaint with the Election Commission against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s Asansol candidate Agnimitra Paul for allegedly making a hate speech while campaigning for the upcoming byelections.

The TMC has accused Paul of making a hate speech allegedly inciting violence and violating the Model Code of Conduct.

The ruling party has accused Paul of making the hate speech while addressing her supporters and media after visiting a temple on Mar 19.

Paul is up against veteran actor Shatrughan Sinha, who has been fielded by the TMC from the Asansol Lok Sabha seat.

The elections will be held on Mar 12.
