Kolkata/IBNS: While its candidate list features a number of celebrities, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has also banked on a daily wage labourer's wife and a domestic help in two seats to trump the Trinamool Congress (TMC) in the West Bengal assembly elections beginning on Saturday.

Thirty-year old Chandana Bauri, the wife of a daily wage labourer, has been fielded from Bankura's Saltora constituency.

Chandana's political journey began in 2018 as a BJP cadre in the Panchayat elections. Later, she became a member of the BJP's Bankura district committee.

With a few thousand rupees in her bank account, Chandana lives in a mud house with no toilet and direct water facilities.

"Never thought of getting a candidature but as I have got one, I will work hard and ensure that no central scheme is stalled in the state," Chandana told Zee News.

Chananda, who is a mother to three children, got married at 15 years of age after her father passed away.

Besides Chandana, the BJP, which is aiming to bring "asol poriborton" or "real change" in the state, has handed over a ticket to domestic help Kalita Majhi from the Burdwan district. Kalita, 32, will fight from the Ausgram constituency.

Kalita, the wife of a daily wager, has one child who studies in class 8.

She has been an active member of the BJP and had also contested the 2018 Panchayat elections.

"If I win, I will first make a hospital in the area," Kalita told ABP News while she was asked about her first work if gets elected.

With the fight between the ruling TMC and challenger BJP is getting neck-to-neck in the upcoming polls, it would be fascinating to see whether the two candidates from grassroot make their way to the Vidhan Sabha after May 2 when the poll results will be declared.
