Belarusian author Svetlana Alexievich gets Nobel laurel for literature

Stockholm, Oct 8 (IBNS) Belarus writer Svetlana Alexievich has won the 2015 Nobel Prize in Literature, reports said.

She was announced as the winner in Stockholm on Thrusday.

The veteran journalist- writer has been chosen from a list of 198 candidates.

 Alexievich gets the coveted award  "for her polyphonic writings: a monument to suffering and courage in our time".

"Her work was a monument to suffering and courage in our time," the Guardian has quoted Sara Danius, the chair of the Swedish Academy, as saying.

 Alexievich  becomes the 14th woman to win the prize since it was first awarded in 1901. The last woman to win, Canada’s Alice Munro, was handed the award in 2013.
