Barber shops, salon to open in green, orange zones from May 4: MHA

New Delhi/UNI: Clarifying the ambiguities in some sections of the guidelines for the third phase of lockdown, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Saturday said that the barber shops and salons will be allowed to open in green and orange zones, but inter-district and intra-district bus services will remain suspended in the orange zones.

In the fresh order issued on Friday, the MHA, while extending the lockdown for two more weeks till May 17, gave considerable relaxations for activities in green and orange zones.

Explaining the exemptions, the MHA spokesperson said, as the distinction between essentials and non-essentials have been done away with, barber shops and salons are allowed to open in green and orange zones, while e-commerce platforms have also been permitted to deliver all kinds of goods in these areas.

“Barber shops and salons are not allowed to open in red zones as these are services not goods," the spokesperson further explained, adding that sale of liquor is allowed in all three zones, with the exception of  specific containment areas in red zones.

"Shops selling liquor have to be standalone and not located in markets or malls in red zone,” the MHA official said.

On allowing domestic helpers to work in red zones, another MHA official said each Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) should take a call on the movement of outsiders.

But health protocols have to be maintained by domestic helpers as well as employers, and the responsibility lies with the person, who employs maids, in case of any mishap.

“Inter-district movement of individuals and vehicles is allowed, only for permitted activities, with maximum two passengers, besides the driver, in four wheeler vehicles,” the MHA official said.
