Babri dispute: SC verdict on LK Advani, Murli Joshi adjourned till Thursday

New Delhi, Mar 22 (IBNS) : The Supreme Court on Wednesday adjourned till Thursday a CBI plea challenging a trial court’s decision to drop criminal conspiracy charges against several BJP and other Hindu organisation leaders in the Babri mosque demolition case.

The apex court is expected to report on whether or not conspiracy charges will be revived against Advani and other leaders like Murli Manohar Joshi and Union Minister Uma Bharti, NDTV reported.

The charge was dropped by the lower courts.

Advani, Joshi and a dozen others, including Vinay Katiyar and Kalyan Singh, were released by a court in Raebareli from conspiracy charges in the razing of the 16th-century Babri mosque in Ayodhya in December 1992 by Hindu activists.

The court declined to adjourn the hearing by four weeks as requested by BJP patriarch LK Advani’s counsel.

On March 6, the bench had expressed anguish over the trial court dropping the conspiracy charges against the 13 leaders on technical grounds. They had hinted at reviving the conspiracy charges.
