Babri demolition: Unhappy over delay, SC indicates joint trial at Lucknow

New Delhi, Apr 6 (IBNS) : Expressing displeasure at the Babri demolition case being dragged on for 25 years, the Supreme Court on Thursday hinted at a joint trial of all the accused, including veteran BJP leader L K Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi, by transferring it to Lucknow.

The apex court indicated that it may order a time-bound  joint trial of all the accused.

The trial for conspiracy in the Babri Masjid demolition case is currently being held in Rae Bareli.

The SC  called the pendency of the Babri Masjid demolition of trials as an "evasion of justice".

The counsel for Advani and MM Joshi opposed a joint trial, saying the Supreme Court can’t transfer their trial from Rae Bareli.

Apart from Advani and Joshi, Uma Bharti, Kalyan Singh and several other leaders of the party were named in connection with the 1992 Babri Masjid demolition case allegedly for instigating a crowd to pull down the structure.

.The other case is against lakhs of volunteers who were in and around the disputed structure at the time of its demolition.
