New Delhi, Jun 12 (IBNS): The health condition of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee is now stable as he is undergoing a series of tests at New Delhi's All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) on Tuesday, media reports said.

However, Vajpayee will  remain in hospital for the treatment of his urinary tract infection.

A team of doctors  accessed Vajpayee's heath condition on Tuesday morning.

The statement, which was issued by the hospital, has been quoted by NDTV, "He will continue to be in hospital till the infection is controlled."

Vajpayee was admitted to the AIIMS on Monday morning on the advice of doctors, a statement issued by his office said.

Vajpayee, 93, was the first head of government from outside the Congress party to serve a full five-year term, as a leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Vajpayee was elected to the Lok Sabha from Lucknow in 1991, 1996, 1998, 1999 and 2004

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Congress president Rahul Gandhi had rushed to the hospital on Monday to meet the former PM.
