| @indiablooms | Jan 12, 2019, at 01:02 pm

Guwahati, Jan 12 (IBNS)  : Protests continued in Assam against the Citizenship Amendment Bill, 2016 on Saturday as students  of several colleges  boycotted classes and staged demonstrations in different parts of the state.

In Guwahati, students of Guwahati Commerce College, B Baruah College and Cotton University  boycotted classes and staged a protest against the bill.

The situation has prompted the authorities to deploy heavy security forces in Guwahati. Security has also been beefed up outside  the Assam secretariat.

Across the north eastern region, the  North East Students Organisation (NESO)  observed black day against the bill.

Protesting against the Citizenship Amendment Bill, All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) MLA Anuwar Hussain Laskar said that the people of  the entire northeast have opposed the bill, which "we will not accept at any cost."

“Assam has been burning since the bill was passed in the Lok Sabha. The BJP has to think about this. If Assam continues to burn, the condition of the people will worsen. I challenged  Amit Shah, where are 40 lakh muslim immigrants ? Can you identify one of them ?",  Laskar said.
