Assam Rifles recover powerful IED in Manipur

Guwahati, Oct 3 (IBNS): A major disaster was averted by Assam Rifles after detecting a powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in Manipur's Thoubal district on Wednesday.

According to the reports, based on intelligence input, the troops of Thoubal battalion of 9 Sector Assam Rifles detected a powerful IED weighing around 8 kg which was placed near a culvert on National Highway 102.

The IED was concealed in an aluminium vessel and suspected militants planted it near a culvert at Wangjing area along the Imphal-Moreh highway.

The Assam Rifles troops carried out intensive search operation at the area with the help of Khongjom police and recovered the IED.

Later, the bomb squad team safely defused the IED.

A top official of Assam Rifles said that, suspected militants planted the IED targeting the security personnel.
