Assam Police recovers powerful IED from passenger train

Guwahati, Nov 24 (IBNS) : The Assam Police on Monday foiled a major terror attack ahead of PM Narendra Modi’s visit to the state as they recovered powerful IED , which weighed seven kilograms, from a compartment of a passenger train in Kamrup district.
With inputs from the NIA and the intelligence sources, the Assam Police have recovered the powerful IED from a compartment of Up Alipurduar-Kamakhya Intercity Express at Kendukuna railway station in the Lower Assam district.
 
“Suspected militants had planted the IED in the passenger train targeting more than 1500 passengers,” a top police official said.
 
“The troops had launched operation in the train at Kendukuna railway station and recovered the bomb from a compartment,” the police official said.
 
Later, the  Army bomb squad team had defused the IED.
 
On Nov 23, two people were killed and 27 others injured in a powerful explosion at Rajgarh area in Upper Assam’s Dibrugarh district.
 
The Assam Police had sounded high alert across Assam for probable terror attack in the state.
