Assam: Police arrest 5 men for abusing Muslim man for selling beef

Guwahati, Apr 9 (IBNS): A Muslim man was heckled for allegedly selling beef in Assam's Biswanath district, making the police to arrest five people, media reports said on Monday.

A video of the incident has gone viral.

Police have reportedly arrested five people in connection with the incident.

Shaukat Ali, 68, was beaten on the road and forced to eat pork as punishment by locals,  sources told NDTV.

According to district police, two separate First Information Reports (FIR) have been filed - one of them is by Shaukat Ali's brother, reported NDTV.

The police have started an investigation and are on the lookout for the men seen in the video, sources told the national news channel.

Biswanath, the place where the incident took place, falls under the Tezpur Lok Sabha constituency.

Voting for the Lok Sabha polls in the seat will take place on Apr 11.
