Assam government to confer awards for the encouragement of scientists: Sarbananda Sonowal
“Moreover, the State government has also decided to pay official honour to the scientists, motivate the upcoming scientists and giving them awards in recognition to their unmatched contributions to the development of science and technology on the occasion of Science Day,” Sonowal said.
While speaking on the occasion of the 24th National Children’s Science Congress at Dibrugarh University at Dibrugarh, the Assam CM said that students of today are the future of tomorrow.
“In order to give fillip to the growth and development of Assam, students are to be groomed properly giving a right mix of science and technology with other subjects of the curriculum. Science and Technology are the potent tools for the skill development of our students,” Sonowal said.
According top-most priority to science and technology, the State Government has been progressing well to harness its natural resources, Sonowal said and added that the countries which have made judicious use of science and technology to utilise their resources have been doing well in the parlance of national development.
“Even we need to march forward with this approach to bolster the growth and development of our State,” Sonowal said.
“Land of Assam is very salubrious and through the use of science and technology productivity including economic development of Assam can be enhanced,” the Assam CM said.
Terming cleanliness is next to Godliness, Sonowal said that giving due respect to the appeal of the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi, Assam should also extend its hands towards Swachhta Abhiyan and make the State clean and serene.
The Assam CM further said that the use of science and technology would help us in getting ourselves acclimatised and acquainted with the prevailing climatic conditions of Assam. To rediscover Assam with respect to its prosperities and possibilities, extensive use of science and technology should be made.
He also mentioned that the Prime Minister of India launched ‘Digital India’ programme for an all-inclusive growth of the country. In line with the ‘soil health card’ to assess fertility of the land, State Government is also taking steps to increase agricultural productivity by using right kind of soil for right kind of produce.
Sonowal moreover reiterated his Government’s commitment to work extensively to stimulate the inclination of school students towards science.
He also underlined government’s plan of transforming Guwahati into a hub of trade and business with all South East Asian Countries and an epicentre for facilitating cultural nuances among all geographical entities.
Minister for Science and Technology Keshab Mahanta while speaking on the occasion outlined State Government’s initiatives of developing a favourable atmosphere for science and technology for the State.
Vice Chancellor of Dibrugarh University Professor Alak Kumar Buragohain, Director of Assam Science Technology and Environment Council Dr. Arup Kumar Misra, eminent scientist Professor Bhupendra Nath Goswami, Deputy Commissioner, Dibrugarh Laya Madduri also spoke on the occasion.
Moreover, MP Kamakhya Prasad Tasa, MLAs Prasanta Phukan, Terash Gowala, Chandradhar Gogoi, bimal Bora, educationist Sohojananda Oja and a host of other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
