Assam flood situation worsens, 3 lakh people affected
Guwahati, June 11 (IBNS): More than 3 lakh people have been affected in the first wave flood in Assam.
The flood situation in Assam on Thursday worsened following incessant rains in the state and neighbouring states in Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya.
According to the state government data, more than 3.11 lakh people of 15 districts were affected in the first wave flood in the state.
Flood waters of Brahmaputra river and its tributaries had submerged a total of 10,844.37 hectare crop area in Barpeta, Sonitpur, Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Tinsukia, Darrang, Nalbari, Goalpara, jorhat, Kamrup(Metro), Baska, Dibrugarh, Kamrup, Nagaon and Bongaigaon district.
The flood waters also submerged some areas in Kaziranga National Park (KNP).
Central Water Commision (CWC) on Thursday sounded alert after water level of Brahmaputra river had crossed danger level mark in Jorhat and Dhubri.
The water level of Brahmaputra river crossed the warning level in Guwahati, as flowing at least 0.20 meter above the warning level mark of 48.68 meter.
The flood affected people took shelter in several relief camps and higher lands.
