Assam CM urges PM for hike in PMGSY Fund

Guwahati, Sept 21 (IBNS) : Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to increase the fund allocation to Assam for PMGSY for the financial year 2015-16 and also for release of adequate funds in time.

In a letter sent to the Prime Minister, Gogoi said that PMGSY is a ‘flagship’ programme and one of the successful programmes in our country.

Since beginning of the PMGSY programme, like other states, Assam has been implementing the programme successfully and already 9824 habitations have been connected by constructing more that 15600 km of roads.

However, now the implementation of the programme has been hampered due to paucity of funds.

“The cumulative amount released so far is Rs. 8449.83 crore by the Centre for the programme and the expenditure made till July, 2015 is Rs 8830.56 crore. The excess expenditure has been met up from the State’s share of Rs 359.60 crore and rest from the interest accrued from Bank. The State Government has submitted provisional Utilization Certificate up to July, 2015,” Gogoi said in the letter.

The Assam CM also said that during the financial year 2015-16, the fund allocation to Assam is only Rs 179.86 crore, against the committed work value of Rs 1200 crore and so far GoI has released only Rs. 134. 90 crore for 1015-16 for which the progress of work is suffering badly.

In his letter Gogoi requested PM Modi to look into the matter and to arrange for increasing the fund allocation to Assam for PMGSY for the financial year 2015-16 and also for release of adequate funds in time.
