Assam: Cash, liquor seized

Guwahati, Apr 8 (UNI) With the first phase polling in Assam three days away, efforts for free and fair elections are at its optimum, resulting in seizure of large amounts of cash and liquor in the state.

While over Rs 9 crore cash have been seized since declaration of election, liquor worth over Rs 1 crore has also seized.

Official sources here informed that Rs 9,32,25,101 in cash has been seized till date.

The quantity of liquor seized till date is 1,42,975.17 litrs, valued at Rs 1,31,08,539.

Various central and state government agencies, along with especially appointed static teams and flying squads, have been working round-the-clock to ensure no flow of illegal cash or liquor, the sources added.

The first phase polling in the state is scheduled on April 11, while the other two phases are on April 18 and 23 respectively, for total 14 seats.
