Guwahati, Nov 5 (IBNS): With assembly elections in Assam hardly six months away, the Congress led Assam state government is in a deep crisis after another nine rebel MLAs have all set to join BJP.
The nine rebel Congress MLAs will BJP on November 6, a top official of the saffron party said.

Assam state BJP unit president Siddhartha Bhattacharya said that, the nine Congress MLAs will formally join the party.

Earlier, the rebel Congress MLAs and powerful minister of Tarun Gogoi led government Himanta Biswa Sarma joined the saffron party in August.

On Thursday evening, a meeting was held in Guwahati between the nine rebel Congress MLAs and union minister Sarbananda Sonowal and finalized the joining matter.

“BJP will form the next government in Assam with absolute majority,” the state BJP unit president said.

The nine rebel Congress MLAs had met BJP president Amit Shah at his residence in New Delhi on September 5 and expressed desire to join the saffron party.

The Tarun Gogoi led Assam government has now just 69 MLAs, barely managing to stay afloat in the 126-member assembly where at least 64 MLAs are needed to maintain a simple majority.
