Kolkata, May 7 (IBNS): RailYatri.in on Thursday released a special report for Kolkata, providing interesting insights into the travel preferences of Kolkata-ites.
Aparajita Mukhopadhyay, VP & Business Head, RailYatri.in said: "Kolkata is famous for its amiable contrasts. On one hand where it is much loved for its alluring old-world charm, on another it boasts of introducing the first metro train in India. Howrah railway station is not only the oldest and largest railway station but with 23 platforms and handling the most no of trains, it is also crowned as the busiest railway station with 858 trains per day."

Home to over 14 million people, Kolkata is a state where about 70 per cent of the population lives in suburban areas, making local trains the most preferred mode of transport for inter and intra city travel.

Aparajita Mukhopadhyay informed, “Not many know that Sealdah-Lal Gola passenger is the longest distance local train in India covering a distance of about 227 kms  and travel time of 5 hours 35 mins.”

“It is strongly recommended to avoid 12332 - Jammu Tawi Howrah Himgiri express when travelling from Kolkata to Jammu as the average delay on this train is observed to be more than 8 hours/ 486 minutes. 12304 - New Delhi Howrah Poorva Express comes at a close second with an average delay of 342 mins,” suggested Aparajita.
