New Delhi, Sep 27 (IBNS) : The Indian Army on Wednesday carried out an operation against insurgents along the Indo-Myanmar border, media reports said.

Heavy casualties were reportedly inflicted on insurgents. However, there were no casualties on the side of the Indian Security Forces, the Indian Army's Eastern Command  tweeted.

The operation that started in the dawn is supposedly against such insurgent groups as  the Nationalist Socialist Council of Nagalim (Khaplang) which are active in the area.

The Army said in a statement, "A column of Indian Army while operating along Indo-Myanmar border was fired upon by unidentified insurgents. Our troops reacted swiftly and brought down heavy retaliatory fire on the insurgents. The insurgents then broke contact and fled from the spot."

"As per inputs, a large number of casualties were suffered by the insurgents. Own troops suffered no casualties during the firefight. It is reiterated that own troops did not cross the international border," it said.
