Army chopper with CDS Bipin Rawat crashes in Tamil Nadu's Nilgiri, injuries reported

Chennai/IBNS: An Indian military chopper carrying senior army officials, including Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Bipin Rawat, crashed in upper Coonoor in Tamil Nadu.

Injuries have been reported. 

The rescue operations are underway. 

General Rawat was in the chopper, the Indian Air Force (IAF) confirmed. 

The IAF has put up a tweet, "An IAF Mi-17V5 helicopter, with CDS Gen Bipin Rawat on board, met with an accident today near Coonoor, Tamil Nadu.

"An Inquiry has been ordered to ascertain the cause of the accident."
