Guwahati, Nov 17 (IBNS) Top ULFA leader Anup Chetia, deported by Bangladesh recently, was brought to Guwahati on Wednesday by the CBI on a transit remand and produced before the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate, reports said.

Chetia was handed over to India on November 11 after being in  Bangladesh jail for years.

He was brought to Guwahati in a special flight amid tight security.

Chetia, with face covered, was taken to the Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court directly from the airport.

Chetia's lawyer Bijan Mahajan told waiting journalists at the court that they would apply for bail for his client.

Chetia's wife Monika Baruah, ULFA 'foreign secretary' Sasa Choudhury, and other pro-peace talk ULFA leaders were present in the Court premises but they were not allowed to meet him. The waiting journalists were also kept at bay from him.
