Anti-CAA demonstration: Several detained in Lucknow

Lucknow/UNI: Several people, including Samajwadi Party leader Pooja Shukla, protesting against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and National Register of Citizens (NRC), were taken into custody from the Hussainabad area of the state capital on Saturday.

The protestors were charged with disturbing peace.

Women in large numbers have been protesting against the CAA and NRC at old Lucknow's Ghanta Ghar since Friday last.

Owing to Republic day, security across the state has been tightened with police and Rapid Action Force (RAF) deployed in strength.

Several people found on protest venue were also taken into custody and some vehicles challaned.

Meanwhile, several women alleged that they had been threatened by the policemen.

Earlier, police had registered an FIR against 135 women, including several activists.
