Another one horned rhino poached in Assam

Guwahati, Oct 3 (IBNS): Poachers have killed a horned rhinoceros in Assam’s Kaziranga National Park (KNP) on Saturday, but failed to take away the horn, officials said.
The incident took place under the Burhapahar forest range of the park on Saturday morning.
 
“When hearing the gun shots, forest guards immediately rushed to the area and encounter took place at the area with poachers. The poachers had managed to flee from the site,” an official of the park said.
 
Later forest guards found the bullet injuries carcass of a male rhino.
 
“The poachers had used sophisticated weapons to kill the rhino, but failed to take away horn,” the official said.
 
Several organizations including Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) had protested against the Forest department of the state government to fail to protect the wild animals.
 
In this year, Assam has lost at least 18 one horned rhino so far which were poached in the national parks, wildlife sanctuary in the state.
