Hyderabad, June 13 (IBNS): A van fell into a barrage near Rajahmundry in Andhra Pradesh which killed at least 22 people on Saturday, reports said.

According to reports, of the dead are seven children. The lone survivor is a kid, said Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, who is monitoring the situation.

The van carrying pilgrims returning from Tirupati met with the tragedy in the East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh as it fell about about 30 feet down into the  Dowleswaram barrage in Gaodavari River.

The vehicle fell down after the driver apparently lost control.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has mourned the loss of lives in the mishap and said: "Loss of lives due to a bus accident in East Godavari district, AP is saddening and unfortunate. My deepest condolences."

CM Naidu earlier tweeted: "Deeply saddened about tragic death of 21 people travelling in a van after it fell off Dowleswaram bridge. I'm monitoring the situation."
